Crowns & Bridges

Also called caps, crowns can be made of many materials including porcelain, metal, and porcelain fused to metal.  They are fitted to you to help 'cap' your natural tooth and can help to increase support for weaker teeth while also immediately improving the appearance of your teeth.

If you need a crown, Dr. Harris will first file and clean your tooth to provide a strong base for the crown and remove any decay and bacteria.  He will then take an impression of your tooth in order to create a crown that will perfectly fit your filed tooth, and secure the custom-made crown to your tooth.  Crowns can remain stain-free and last for many years with proper hygeine and regular check-ups!

When you have a missing tooth or teeth, a bridge may be a better option for you than a crown.  A bridge is a device that helps replace missing teeth and also prevents shifting of other teeth, facial changes due to changing tooth structure from lost teeth and any associated speech difficulties.

Like crowns, bridges are created to perfectly fit the space where you are missing a tooth or teeth.  After Dr. Harris takes a mold of this area to create a custom-made bridge for you, he will securely cement it to your neighboring teeth.  After the bridge is in place, your teeth will look just as natural and function just as well as they did before you lost your tooth!

If you have any questions about crowns or bridges, or would like to set up an appointment so that Dr. Harris can give you a proper teeth evaluation, please call our office today!

Frequently Asked Questions

A tooth decays through a process of bacteria and food wearing down your teeth.  That bacteria and food eventually release acids that attack your teeth after eating.  Because these acids can wear down enamel, they will also cause tooth decay.

If not treated, tooth decay can cause infection and tooth loss, but you can prevent this by brushing and flossing daily and regularly visiting Dr. Harris for check-ups.  Avoiding sugar can also help prevent tooth decay.

Unfortunately, tooth decay doesn't usually cause symptoms and can only be diagnosed by your dentist.  If tooth decay is left unnoticed and causes infection, you may notice a toothache.
